About
ECCHIPS is an independent project that builds small, focused tools for electronics engineers. The first tool is the SMD Code Lookup: a fast way to decode common SMD markings into possible resistor or ceramic capacitor values.
Current scope
Version 1.0 deliberately does one thing only: decoding three-digit, four-digit and EIA-96 markings. There is no component database, no account system, no backend and no advertising. If a feature does not help you decode a marking faster, it is not in this version.
How results are calculated
Results are produced by deterministic marking rules implemented directly by ECCHIPS, computed locally in your browser. ECCHIPS does not copy or resell any third-party parts database, and no query leaves your device. Because the same calculation rules run on every request, the same input always produces the same output.
Accuracy principles
- Markings follow commonly used conventions, not universal laws. Descriptions on this site use careful wording for that reason.
- A three-digit code is reported as ambiguous by design: it may encode a resistor value or a ceramic capacitor value, and the marking alone cannot tell you which.
- When a code cannot be decoded under a supported rule, the tool says so instead of guessing.
- Always confirm against the component's datasheet and your own measurements before relying on a decoded value in real hardware.
Independence and limitations
ECCHIPS is not affiliated with any component manufacturer or distributor. It is an educational reference tool: it interprets markings, it does not identify individual physical components, verify authenticity, or guarantee tolerance ratings.

No account, no upload, no tracking by default. Recent lookups are kept only in your browser's local storage. See the Privacy page for details.
Roadmap
More single-purpose engineering tools are planned, added one at a time once each proves useful. Suggestions and correction reports from working engineers are the main input for what gets built next.
